Salt Into An Open Wound

Original Poetry

Putting salt into an open wound doesn’t heal it.
It hurts like a bitch, burns like one, too.
Kind of feels like your body is on fire.
But it doesn’t get better.
Sometimes, in order for things to get better,
You just let it be.
Let the wounds heal by themselves.
Don’t touch it, don’t add any harmful substances to it.
Watch it scab over,
And eventually heal itself.
The skin will become stronger, tougher,
More resilient to danger.
And although the scar might be boldly prominent,
It’s a tasteful reminder that you got through it.
You got through the worst,
And you made it.
Wear the scar with pride.
It’s a symbol of your resilience,
That nothing can hurt you
Anymore.
