Spectre of A Human

I vomited out compliments
For this one person.
Every birthday
Valentine’s Day
I told them how amazing they were.
And I told them everything
I loved about them.
I worshipped my love for them
and it made me blind.
Blind to the person they really were.
You see, a rose looks so perfect
So incredibly innocent
All draped in white.
But when it cuts you
With its thorn
You take a step back and think
‘How could I have been so naive?’
I wish I could take everything back
Because you didn’t deserve an ounce
Of my adoration.
My obsession with a spectre
Of a human.
