Lust Instead of Love

Poetry

She was here in this room

with people she despised,

teenagers who spent their

weekends in corners of

rooms, with gossip and

loud music, in beds that

weren’t theirs with people

they hoped would love

them back. They were all

unlike her. She would rather

open a book instead of a can,

rather lock eyes with a boy

instead of the lips of someone

she hardly knew. Society

pushed lust instead of love,

she had no clue what was right anymore.
